Client Work

Here's some of the client work I've done over the years. These projects span from early web development work to more recent backend and infrastructure implementations.

I've worked with different types of organizations - startups, established businesses, and political campaigns. Each project had its own technical challenges and requirements, which helped me develop the broad skill set I use in my current DevOps role.

I prefer working closely with clients to understand what they actually need, not just what they think they want. Clear communication and realistic expectations tend to lead to better outcomes for everyone involved.

While some of these projects are older web development work, they show the progression of my technical skills and approach to problem-solving that I bring to infrastructure and DevOps work today.

Dr Weber Election Website

Dr. Rae Ann Weber was running for coroner in Colorado, and needed a website to showcase her qualifications and connect with potential voters. As the web developer on the project, I was responsible for designing and building a WordPress site that would effectively promote Dr. Weber's campaign.

To achieve this, I worked closely with Dr. Weber and her assistant, Alice, to understand her vision and goals for the website. I crafted a custom design that reflected her professionalism and dedication to the community. The site was built on WordPress, allowing Dr. Weber and her team to easily update the site with campaign news, events, and other important information.

The end result was a visually appealing and user-friendly website that helped Dr. Weber connect with voters and advertise events she would be attending.

Volaero Drones

Volaero Drones is a cutting-edge drone defense company that specializes in military-grade solutions. As the web developer for their project, I worked closely with Kevin Sanders, the head of business development, to design and develop a website that effectively showcased their products and services.

The design of the site was tailored to Volaero's brand and industry, with an industrial and rugged look that reflected their military-grade drones. In addition to the design, I focused on user experience, ensuring that the site was easy to navigate and provided visitors with clear information about Volaero's offerings.

One key challenge was to highlight the technical capabilities of Volaero's solutions in a way that was understandable to both military and civilian customers. To achieve this, I worked closely with Kevin and his team to ensure that the site included technical information, videos and images that spoke to Volaero's expertise and experience.

The final result was a visually impressive Single Page Application that effectively positioned Volaero as one of the leaders in the drone defense industry.

The organization's goal is to provide hope and support to individuals and families in need, and guide them towards a brighter future through the power of God.

As the web developer for Free On The Inside, my task was to create a platform that showcased the organization's mission and services to the public. I built a user-friendly WordPress website that makes it easy for people to find help, donate, or volunteer.

The website also highlights the severity of the addiction and homelessness crisis in our country, and how Free On The Inside is making a difference. With a clean and modern design, the website provides a clear call to action for those in need and those who want to help.

R.D.A.R.S

RDARS (Real-time Drone Alarm Response Systems), is a cutting-edge drone security company that focuses on providing residential and consumer-based drone security solutions. As their ongoing web developer, my job is to ensure their website effectively showcases their advanced technology and innovative approach to drone security.

The website itself is a high-tech design, with a sleek and modern look that fits perfectly with the company's image. The site's front-end was built in React, which allows for smooth and fast loading times, and API calls are used to populate the Investors and News pages.

These pages are backed by a heavily modified CMS powered by PHP, providing readers with up-to-date information on the latest RDARS news and happenings in the company. The latest addition to th site is a news letter subscription modal, which is backed by a third party API.

By working with RDARS, I was able to help them create a website that not only showcases their cutting-edge technology but also provides visitors with valuable information on the products and company views. Whether it's for residential or consumer-based security solutions, RDARS is leading the way in drone security, and their website is a true testament to their dedication and innovation.

Zamora For Colorado

Lynda Zamora Wilson is a Colorado candidate who wanted to stand out from the competition in her election campaign. She approached me to design and build a WordPress site that would help voters easily find the information they needed about her background, political stances, and campaign promises.

With a clear understanding of Lynda's goals, I created a clean and simple design that emphasized the key points of her platform. The site was optimized for speed and usability, making it easy for voters to quickly find the information they needed to make an informed decision. I also included a donation page where supporters could contribute to her campaign.

Throughout the design process, I worked closely with Lynda to ensure that the site accurately reflected her values and vision for her campaign. I provided regular updates on the development progress and made adjustments based on her feedback.

One of the things I learned on this project was how you have to handle military photos. As Lynda is a veteran of the Airforce, there was a lot of rules that I wasn't aware of when it comes to military uniforms and how you can use them. the resulting website was a great success. Lynda received positive feedback from voters, and her online presence helped her stand out in a crowded field of candidates.

Personal Projects

Web development isn't just my job, it's also my favorite hobby. When I'm not working on client projects, you can bet I'm tinkering with new ideas and technologies on my own personal projects. Think of me as a mad scientist, but instead of a lab coat, I'm wearing a nerdy t-shirt.

From a weather app that tells you whether to pack an umbrella or sunglasses, to a recipe website that helps you cook like a pro, I love to create apps and websites that reflect my interests and personality. And, of course, I've got a personal blog where I share my adventures in coding, design, and whatever else is on my mind.

These personal projects have taught me so much about web development, from working with APIs to creating user-friendly interfaces. And, most importantly, they've kept me passionate about what I do. I'm always on the lookout for my next big idea, so stay tuned!

Awesome LabelMaker

This was a fun little project that helped me automate some boring office work for my wife. Every month, she has to take a list of people's names and mailing address data, and put them into a Word template to print on Avery labels. This task takes time as its a lot of copy/paste but it also has to be accurate, otherwise the client of the company she contracts with, wont get mailed.

I decided to write up a Python script to take a list of people's names and mailing addresses from an Excel file, format each column's data, and ultimately add it to each label in the Word document. The downside of this was that she isn't comfortable using the command line to run scripts, so I decided to build a GUI to make life easier.

The end result is a simple multi-threaded Python app that allows the user to open an Excel file, set a save directory, and then run through a list of data. Each Word doc has 20 labels persheet and the program will open a new sheet when it run out of room.

Portfolio

My original portfolio website was built three years ago and boy, has it come a long way since then! Back then, it was built using React, which was pretty new to me at the time, but now it's been upgraded to the latest and greatest - Nextjs 13! You know what they say, "out with the old and in with the new" - and I hop you agree, the new site is looking fresh!

But it's not just about the fancy new tech - I've also been working hard on improving my coding skills over the years, and it definitely shows in the updated site. It's faster, smoother, and just overall better than ever before.

Experiments

As a web developer and programmer, I love to experiment with new languages and design ideas. It's like playing with Legos, but instead of building a castle, I'm building something that might change the world (or, at least, the internet).

In my free time, I like to explore new programming languages and frameworks, from Rust to React. I'm always curious about what's next in the world of web development, and experimenting with new tools is the best way to stay ahead of the curve.

I also enjoy playing around with design ideas, even if they're for fictional companies. It's like creating a puzzle where the pieces have to fit together just right. Whether it's a sleek and modern design for a new startup, or a whimsical and colorful website for a bakery, I love to let my creativity run wild.

These experiments may not always turn into finished projects, but they're always valuable learning experiences. And who knows, maybe one day one of these experiments will turn into the next big thing. Until then, I'll keep tinkering away.
